Booklist Review
Singer-songwriter Herstand knows his stuff and covers all aspects of the music industry, from how to find a manager to how to get a record deal, build a fan base, stay sane on the road, and make real money playing the college circuit. He also explains how to build a great-looking website, and how to get music placed in film and television. Despite or perhaps because of the turmoil in the music industry, he declares that now is the best time to be an independent musician. But first, he advises, ask yourself why you want to be musician. If the answer is because you love music, consider another career. A music career requires not only passion but also hard work and perseverance. He insists that those who enter the business to become famous will fail. Fame will not sustain your drive. To succeed you will have to pave your own path. Best advice? Just be authentic. Herstand presents a bracing, realistic, yet optimistic look at what it takes to make it in the music industry.--Sawyers, June Copyright 2016 Booklist
