Library Journal Review
Power's (The Big Book of Weekend Beading; coauthor, So Easy...Beading) newest book will appeal to differing levels of "off loom" bead weavers, from beginner through advanced. It includes 30 step-by-step projects by ten designers from around the world. The text covers the tools and materials needed, basic principles and standard techniques, plus hints and tips for easier work. Essential stitches-Peyote, ladder, brick, spiral, right-angle weave, and herringbone-are clearly outlined in chapters in which that technique is used to make several jewelry pieces in a range of skill levels. Power also emphasizes color schemes and combinations to produce pretty results. These projects, which range from simple to chic flamboyant, should appeal to many ages and fashion tastes. Several designs use combinations of diverse beads and stitches with stunning outcomes. Each piece is modeled in appealing color photographs. VERDICT This book will encourage bead crafters at all levels to develop further their skills and personal creativity. Readers can use this book to make several, if not most, of the projects without spending too much time or money. (c) Copyright 2014.
