Author Notes

Diana Hand is an established artist and printmaker who lives and works in Scotland, UK. She studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art. She is a horse rider with a deep knowledge of the horse and an interest in classical and natural horsemanship. Her work has been exhibited widely in the UK, and she is a Friend of the Society of Equestrian Artists.

Chapters offer information on materials and basic drawing techniques; discuss deeper observation skills; introduce horse anatomy; and provide additional details about horse breeds, difficult-to-draw body parts, and horse movement. Step-by-step tutorials accompany many lessons. Novice artists will most likely want to proceed linearly through the guide, but those more experienced can skip around as they please. Throughout the guide, drawing from live horses, from photographs, as well as from one's imagination are all encouraged. Tips for finding live models are also offered.
