Author Notes
An award-winning romance writer, Michele Sinclair's books carry readers to the historical highlands of Scotland where romance dwells in strong, vibrant, even at times humorous characters. A working mom during the week and a soccer/tennis mom on the weekend, when Michele isn't having fun with her two children, she plies her creativity with salty snacks and Dr. Pepper plus occasional paw input from their lively, affectionate, yet fearless five pound Maltese. Publisher's Weekly Review
Sinclair's steamy 10th romance set in the 14th-century Scottish Highlands (after Never Kiss a Highlander) packs the erotic punch of its predecessors but lacks their brawly drive. Conan McTiernay, a "good-looking beast" and second youngest of seven brothers in his powerful clan's ruling family, refuses to consider marriage because he's convinced it makes a man unreasonable. Instead, he indulges his burning desire to map Scotland. Then he meets Mhairi Mayboill, the beautiful, brainy daughter of a traveling merchant. She's just as determined to make her own way in life, spurning both marriage and the convent. Highland pride, prejudice, and the fear of losing their freedom make them both oblivious to their potential romantic partnership until two scheming (and unconvincingly mature) preteen nieces and the laird's lady push them together. Lengthy obstacle-clearing maneuvers and extended in-castle familial subplots produce too much talk and too little action, and bog down this heated Highland fling. (Feb.) © Copyright PWxyz, LLC. Booklist Review
In her latest installment in the the saga of the McTiernay brothers, Sinclair features Conan McTiernay, who is determined to stay single and free in order to explore the wilds of Scotland unencumbered. Conan's dream is to create realistic maps for King Robert, but his drawing skills are lacking and vellum is too precious to waste. Luckily for him, the perfect person to help him achieve his dreams is MhàiriMayboill, who happens to be skilled in drawing and in possession of large quantities of hemp paper as well as being adept at living off the land. Conan and Mhàiri share a similar passion to see the world, and both have plans to leave the castle in the spring to set off on their respective journeys, although Conan's mischievous young nieces do have the whole winter to play little matchmakers. Historical-romance readers will appreciate Sinclair's detailed description of life in a fourteenth-century Scottish castle, and those who enjoy family tales will find humor and warmth in the extended clan's well-intentioned attempts at bringing Conan and Mhàiri together. The shocking epilogue guarantees another novel to follow.--Giovanni, Kristina Copyright 2018 Booklist
