Summary
Summary
Elvis Style is a celebration of the aesthetic world of Elvis Presley. As one of the most significant pop icons of the 20th century, Elvis' impact on the music world has been widely discussed and analyzed. Surprisingly, however, his influence on design and fashion remains largely overlooked. Elvis Style investigates why Elvis was, and continues to be, an icon of style, focusing on his wonderfully expressive hairstyles, clothes, cars, and interiors. Elvis Style offers the reader an intriguing and insightful journey though the crazy, cool and at times kitsch world of a true megastar.
Author Notes
Zoey Goto is a fashion and design journalist, writing for many of the leading international magazines including GQ, GQ Style, Elle and Numero. Assignments have included interviewing the actor Benedict Cumberbatch on the set of Sherlock, visiting the world's most expensive tailoring house in Naples and reporting from the front row of London Fashion Week. For over a decade, Elvis Style has been a work in progress, as the author embarked on research trips la king her from an imitation of Graceland in the suburbs of Denmark, to The Deep South where she met Elvis' tailor, had lunch with Elvis' neighbour Al Green, and slept overnight in Elvis' teenage bedroom.

Library Journal Review
For decades, Elvis Aron Presley (1935-77) dominated American music and popular culture. Biographies detailing his Southern upbringing through his drug-addled final years abound, as do critical studies of his music and film appearances. Yet Presley's legacy was not limited to the stage and screen. Fashion journalist Goto's first book fills this gap by examining the pop icon's influence on style and design. Though the title suggests this is a fashion text, only the first chapter, which encompasses about half the book's length and is divided into three sections, covers Presley's clothing from his years as a rising star to his final performances. Other chapters explore Presley's classic hairstyle, food preferences, cars, and houses. Goto's fashion background is evident through her inclusion of quotes and anecdotes from design specialists, including Hal Lansky, the son of Bernard Lansky, Presley's favorite tailor. With color images on every spread, this book can be read cover to cover or readers can pinpoint a section of interest. -VERDICT While sure to be an Elvis fan favorite, this quick read will also appeal to pop culture enthusiasts and designers. However, readers wanting a biography or scholarly study should look elsewhere.-Shannon Marie Robinson, Drexel Univ. Libs., Philadelphia © Copyright 2016.
