Author Notes

Keri Arthur is a writer of fantasy, horror fiction, and romance novels from Melbourne, Australia. She began writing at the age of twelve and has finished twenty-six novels as of July 2012. Her books have received many nominations and prizes, including raves from the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Awards and PNR's PEARL Awards. She won the 2017 Australian Romance Readers Awards, Favourite sci-fi, fantasy or futuristic romance for her book Blood Kissed.

Arthur is best known for a series of books revolving around the character Riley Jensen, who is a rare hybrid of vampire and werewolf and has a twin brother named Rhoan. Jensen works for an organisation in Melbourne called the Directorate of Other Races, which was created to police supernatural races. Her titles Fireborn made the Aurealis Awards finalist list for 2014.

Arthur supplies nonstop action in her third Souls of Fire novel (after Wicked Embers), but her lead character's interior life is stuck in limbo. Luke Turner has succumbed to the mind-altering red plague virus and is using magic and an alliance with the sindicati (vampire mafia) to control an outbreak and try to kill his brother, Sam, a paranormal investigator with the Australian government, and Emberly Pearson, a phoenix and Sam's former lover. Emberly and fire fae Jackson Miller try to stay alive during their hunt for lost biomedical research and missing witches; most of Emberly's downtime is spent moping about Sam, whose habit of jumping to conclusions doomed their relationship. Though the book is filled with paranormal activity, the only emotional heat is a few smoldering glances Sam sends Emberly's way.
