Many people may remember Grace Patricia Kelly (1929-82) as Princess Grace of Monaco rather than as an actress. Coauthors -Jorgensen (Edith Head: The Fifty-Year Career of Hollywood's Greatest Costume Designer) and -Bowman (Fellini: The Sixties) want to rectify that with this lavishly illustrated book highlighting Kelly's acting career. Countless books have been written since her untimely death, but here the authors suggest that this may be first book ever to present her life "through the lens of her film career," one that included only 11 pictures over a six-year period before she was whisked off to Monaco to marry Prince Rainier III. In that short time, she won a Best Actress Academy Award and made three iconic films with Alfred Hitchcock, including Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, and To Catch a Thief. Details of her life are here, but as promised, this book concentrates on the films. Each movie is given a chapter with juicy details about the film and Kelly-she had affairs with practically all of her leading men-but the real stars here are the photographs, some never seen before.
