The Library Pages
By Morton, Carlene
K-Gr 3–Not since Carmen Deedy's The Library Dragon (Peachtree, 1994) flew in has there been such a humorous way to introduce library protocol. Mrs. Heath, librarian at Happyland Elementary School, receives a DVD and letter from her students while she is on maternity leave. The letter notes that they miss her, and that the substitute falls asleep and snores while reading in the rocker. Meanwhile the pages are "helping" to keep the library running smoothly. Each scene horrifies Mrs. Heath more as the children describe putting all the thin books together, shelving the books by color, mending them with attractively colored duct tape, cutting pictures out of encyclopedias for collages, shelving every third book with the pages pointing out, borrowing books without checking them out–the list goes on and on.

The joy of reading, writing, and sharing is brought to life in this warmhearted tale.
Library Lion
By Knudsen, Michelle
An affectionate storybook tribute to that truly wonderful place: the library.. Miss Merriweather, the head librarian, is very particular about rules in the library. No running allowed. And you must be quiet. But when a lion comes to the library one day, no one is sure what to do. There arent any rules about lions in the library. And, as it turns out, this lion seems very well suited to library visiting. His big feet are quiet on the library floor. He makes a comfy backrest for the children at story hour. And he never roars in the library, at least not anymore. But when something terrible happens, the lion quickly comes to the rescue in the only way he knows how. Michelle Knudsens disarming story, illustrated by the matchless Kevin Hawkes in an expressive timeless style, will win over even the most ardent of rule keepers.

The Library
By Gorman, Jacqueline Laks
K-Gr. 2. Like others in the new I Like to Visit series in the Early Learning Library, this photo-essay about children visiting the library is as simple as can be. The text is in the first person, but it's never clear who the narrator is, since many different children appear in the full-bleed color photos that face the large-print text. One picture shows a child being helped by a librarian (the young, hip variety); in another, a little girl with corn rows is looking at a book about pets. Gorman also tells children that it's good to be quiet in the library and that library books should be returned on time. A short glossary and a bibliography are appended.
