About this item

(In Spanish, with English subtitles) Six stories, each steeped in brutal irony and a bit of comedy, unfold before us, giving us a creeping sensation that if we don’t behave, this could happen to us.  Each vignette tells a story of revenge in one form or another, revenge of the wronged against those who did the wronging.  It’s Edgar Allan Poe without the horror. Or maybe it holds its share of horror along with some laughs, although we might wonder, mid-story, why we are laughing.  For example, in “The Rats,” a young waitress realizes that the nasty customer sitting at the table in the dining room ruined her family in the past and is now Mr. High-and-Mighty, running for public office no less.  The solution as proposed by the sympathetic cook?  Give him rat poison.  Then see how high and mighty he remains.  In “Road to Hell,” we follow a story of road rage that despite the terrifying escalation of stupid actions ends on an ironic twist too good to miss.  “Pasternak” could be the fantasy of many a jilted lover, maligned musician, offended school student, whatever wrong might have occurred in our everyday lives, a fantasy come true.  And on and on…Since the stories are so cartoonish, we cannot take them seriously, but we can vicariously enjoy the evils of revenge even as we shudder at the pain of it all.
