For the past 20 years, a new swarm of bees buzz into Mr. B's third-grade classroom where the power of poetry is used to learn from each other, embrace differences, build self-esteem, and search for the special hidden voice inside us. Said the Paper to the Pen is a collection of poems for teachers, students or anyone that would like to take a peek inside Mr. B's classroom, known as the B-Hive.
About the Author
Mike Bertram, referred to as "Mr. B" in his classroom, has been teaching for 20 years and is currently a third-grade teacher in New Jersey. He uses the power of poetry to help students learn from each other, embrace their differences, build self-esteem, and search for their special hidden voice. Mr. B loves that poetry not only allows his students to explore how they feel but gives him the opportunity to see the world through their eyes.He started performing spoken word poetry in 2002 and was a member of the 2005 Nuyorican Poetry Slam Team, an HBO Def Poet, and 2008 Southern Fried Individual Poetry Slam Champion. Since then, he has performed at many colleges and universities nationwide. He also conducts creative writing workshops for students K-12. He has partnered with several organizations in his hometown of Rahway to provide an artistic outlet for youth and adults that allow people to come together and bridge cultural gaps. Doing adult things can be cool, but Mr. B has the most fun at school with his students.
