About this item

To celebrate the centennial of the National Park Service, children s author-illustrator Martha Day Zschock has created Journey Around Our National Parks from A to Z. Discover the fascinating story of the preservation of over 400 special places in our country, including Yellowstone, the Great Smoky Mountains, Mount Rushmore, the Florida Everglades, and the historic sites in our nation s capital. Since 1862, when the first public land was set aside as a wilderness preserve, to the birth of the National Park Service in 1916, to today, when national monuments are regularly added and expanded thanks to the Antiquities Act, the National Parks and the people who preserve and protect them continue to evolve and grow. Designed to introduce kids to our National Parks as if they are on a field trip with their third or fourth grade class, Zschock s beautiful, whimsical, and detailed illustrations and meticulously researched history, enhanced by quotes from prominent nature lovers, will captivate children of all ages, from the youngest lap-reader to the adults who read to them.
