About the Author

Kristin Nicholas

Kristin Nicholas is an artist, author, potter, and designer who lives on a working sheep farm with her husband and daughter in western Massachusetts. Kristin is known for her innovative use of bright colors and textures. Her artwork spans many disciplines - fabrics, needlework, pottery, interior decoration, and more. Kristin is the author of 12 books on crafting, knitting, embroidery, and interior decoration. She has also illustrated many of her own books.

Crafting a Patterned Home is Kristin's newest book - to be published by Roost Books in April 2018. In this new book, Kristin shares her love of pattern, color and interior decoration. She breaks down pattern design into easy building blocks so the reader can design their very own patterns too. There are over 25 projects included which will inspire the reader to add pattern to their home, their walls, their furniture, textiles and even the outdoors including She Sheds.

Kristin's home has been featured in Country Home, Yankee Magazine, Romantic Homes, Cottages and Bungalows, the Boston Globe, and on the Houzz.com website where it was the "Most Popular Colorful House of the Year" in 2012. Each summer, Kristin hosts retreats on her farm a few times a year where knitters, stitchers, and crafters come to learn about colorwork, design, and living on a working sheep farm. Kristin also teaches on-line knitting and stitching classes on the websites Craftsy, Creativebug, and is the Knitting Expert on PBS' Knit and Crochet Now.

She learned to knit, crochet, embroider and sew as a young girl. For 16 years she was the Creative Director of Classic Elite Yarns in Lowell, MA. She writes the popular farming, knitting and lifestyle blog http://getting-stitched-on-the-farm.blogspot.com/

Kristin and her family own Leyden Glen Farm with a flock of 200 breeding ewes. The sheep are raised for meat with they sell at local Farmers' Markets in western Massachusetts. Their Border Collie Kate, helps herd the sheep and keep everyone in line. Guard dogs Beau and Sadie and guard llama Jeremy try to keep the critters at bay.
