About this item

Inspired by a folksong, the trip from country to city in vintage 1920 vehicles has never been more ebullient, as reflected in Emily Bolam's delightful watercolors. Led by a little girl on a bicycle, people travel to Boston in carts and carriages, on buses, on horseback, in wagons and cars. They are headed for the beautiful Boston Common where people gather to sing and dance, buy and sell, exercise and relax- in short, to enjoy themselves as people have enjoyed open spaces for centuries. Sheet music and a historical description of commons make up the endnotes.
