About this item

Twas The Night - The Art and History of the Classic Christmas Poem is the first cultural history to be published of the highly-celebrated poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, also known as Twas The Night Before Christmas. The artwork and literary references presented in this publication were selected to demonstrate the way in which "The Poet of Christmas Eve" drew upon two centuries of winter cultural traditions and customs, as well as elements from the spiritual and secular sectors, in the creation of the work. Dozens of vintage illustrations were carefully chosen for this publication from the thousands of editions published over years, along with examples of works by both commercial illustrators and fine artist who were drawn to the poem's enchanting imagery.

About the Author

Pamela McColl

Publisher and author. In 2012 published the first smoke-free edition of the famous poem Twas The Night Before Christmas to generate more discussion and awareness of the cultural influences that impact young children and their future use of tobacco products. The publication won seven book awards including four Benjamin Franklin Book Awards, a Moonbeam, a gold for Mom's Choice Awards and a Global International Ebook Award. Working on Baby and Me Tobacco Free brought Pamela's experience as a labor support doula and prenatal yoga to the discussion of tobacco cessation. Writing on the issue of quitting in time to welcome a baby was also a personal story and a sharing of a revelation that quitting can be drastically influenced by life changing events such as hearing the news of a confirmed pregancy. Pamela continues to promote the need for greater prevention, education and assistance to those who find themselves wanting to stop the use of tobacco products. Pamela is a tobacco prevention activist and is now working on the story of marijuana and the disconnect between the available science and what the public understands about the risks and potential for harm by an increasing use by youth.
