AND YET THIS IS A FAMILIAR CUISINE: The Great Migration from the South in the decades following the Civil War, combined with the strong influence of Dutch, German, and Scandinavian settlers over a wide swath of the United States, from New York and Pennsylvania deep into the Midwestern states, makes the recipes in the book new variations of familiar dishes. From collard greens to spätzle, country fried steak to German chocolate donuts, this is recognizable, delicious food that will resonate with anyone who enjoys Southern, soul, and German, Dutch, or Scandinavian cuisine.Perfect for:Fans of Chris Scott from his stint on Top Chef or via his restaurants in Brooklyn and NYCFans of soul food, Southern food, and/or German/Dutch foodThose looking for elevated comfort foodFoodies who collect regional or narrative cookbooks rich with history and visualsPeople who bought NOTES FROM A YOUNG BLACK CHEF, SOUL, or VICTUALS

Chris Scott

My first book was a copy-shop pamphlet called 'Desert Biking', self-published in 1991 before that became a thing. DB evolved into the Adventure Motorcycling Handbook (AMH) , now in its 8th edition. I also wrote 'Sahara Overland' (OP) , 'Overlanders' Handbook 2' and 'Morocco Overland 3', all for Trailblazer Guides.I co-authored several editions of The 'Rough Guide to Australia' and contributed to other Rough Guides, as well as various long-distance British walking guides for Trailblazer. My own books include 'Desert Travels' covering my early Saharan explorations, 'The Street Riding Years'; my wild years as a despatch rider in 1980s London (RIDE magazine's Book of the Year) . In 2018 I published Sahara Trekking and also contributed the introduction to Gestalten's 'Hit the Road'. 2020 sees the full color 8th edition of AMH and I also contribute regularly to Overland Journal.Twitter: @ChrisScottAdv
