Author of many travel guides to North and South America, Carolyn McCarthy specializes in adventure, culture and the environment. Skilled at tough travel, she has explored the Amazon Basin via dugout canoe and solo hiked Patagonia to write Lonely Planet's Trekking in the Patagonian Andes. Other titles include guides to Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Central and South America.
