The small ranching town of Benton becomes the "Town of Twenty Triggers" when the Joker, a portly, chuckling man with a bland smile, a poker face, and an amazing ability to make a deck of cards perform any trick he desired, and his traveling companion Emmet Pierce, a Texan fast with his gun, arrive determined to take it over. After winning ownership of The Palace, the largest gambling hall in town, the Joker has Pierce hire gunslingers to enforce his hold on the town. Things are going according to the Joker's fiendish plans until Emmet Pierce discovers a conscience.
