The famed writer and poet sails to London to engage the illustrious detective Auguste Dupin to solve a Poe family mystery, in a stylish and brilliantly constructed debut novel. Summer, 1840. Edgar Allan Poe sails from Philadelphia to London to meet his friend C. Auguste Dupin, with the hope that the great detective will help him solve a family mystery. For Poe has inherited a mahogany box containing a collection of letters allegedly written by his grandparents, Elizabeth and Henry Arnold. The Arnolds were actors who struggled to make a living on the London stage, but the mysterious letters suggest that the couple has a more clandestine and nefarious lifestyle, stalking well-to-do young women at night, to slice their clothing and derrieres. Poe hopes to prove the missives forgeries; Dupin wonders if perhaps they are real, but their content fantasy.

Karen Lee Street

Karen Lee Street spent her earliest years in an 18th century Pennsylvanian farmhouse with far too many things that went bump in the night. Consequently, she became a voracious reader of fairytales, mysteries, historical yarns (both true and untrue) , and stories with a tinge of the Gothic. Her debut mystery trilogy combines these elements and has been described as both literary historical crime and Gothic mystery. The protagonists are famed writer Edgar Allan Poe and his fictional creation, the ur-detective C. Auguste Dupin whose investigations take them to London in 1840; Philadelphia, 1844; and Paris, 1849. Karen has also written interconnected short story collection Tattoos and Motorcycles described as "Thornton Wilder meets David Lynch" and Writing and Selling Crime Film Screenplays based on her extensive script development experience in the European feature film industry. She also has a PhD in Writing from the University of South Wales.
