About the Author

Alana Collins

Alana Collins was born on beautiful Vancouver Island, British Columbia, in 1957. Growing up as a competitive figure skater, she soon discovered that her skinny legs were not strong enough to compete with the girls whose legs were naturally strong. Back then, athletes were not strength training for their sport. This led Alana to the world of strength training at an early age, when girls were rarely seen in the gym. Today at age 62, Alana is passionate about helping others keep their bodies strong, and educating both men and women alike of the many benefits of strength training, well beyond just physical appearance. She firmly believes that maintaining our muscular strength is the key to a long and independent life. One of her mantras is: If there IS a fountain of youth, strength training is it! Because we begin to lose muscle strength as early as our mid 30's, Alana believes that the sooner you begin, the better off you'll be going forward, but also adds that it's never too late!
