About this item

Suffolk County, the second largest county in New York State, is a very diverse place, both geographically and culturally. Home to 1.5 million people, it features waterfront villages on the north and south shores. On its eastern end, it is also a vacation paradise for thousands every summer. Much has changed over time in Suffolk County--new highways have been built, historic buildings and sites have been obliterated, and housing developments and shopping centers of all types and sizes have sprung up. Yet despite all of this "progress," there is still so much of the county's storied past visible. Suffolk's rich farming heritage is evident in much of the county, with numerous roadside farm stands and U-pick locations offering everything from corn to peaches.
