About this item

Often, the nine patch is one of the first blocks taught to beginners learning to quilt. But the nine patch is also one of the most diverse blocks, offering many different design options. In ScrapTherapy The Versatile Nine Patch, quilt designer and teacher Joan Ford offers gorgeous designs using the traditional nine patch block plus more challenging and creative patterns that turn a nine patch into something entirely new. For each project, Joan gives quilters lots of options--cutting scraps from yardage or using scraps from their stash; strip piecing squares, cutting squares into strips, or creating squares with interfacing; and fabric variations to change the look of the project. All projects include step-by-step instructions, tips and hints, with how-to illustrations and a photo of the finished project. A quiltmaking basics section provides all the information plus step-by-step photos to build confidence and ensure success, no matter what the quilting project.

About the Author

Joan Ford

Joan Ford took her first quilting class on February 8, 2003. From the very start she was hooked! A few years later, she realized, like most quilters do, that her growing scrap fabric stash was the source of guilt because the beautiful leftover fabrics were not being used. Her first book, ScrapTherapy, Cut the Scraps! introduces quilters to a simple concept to cut, store, and use leftover fabric squares in coordinated scrappy quilt projects.
