Born and raised in Tampico, Mely started helping in the kitchen at a very young age, since she was the oldest daughter of eight children, and spent summers at her grandmother's farm in the state of Veracruz, where part of the daily activities included helping grind the corn to make masa. Mely started her popular blog, Mexico in My Kitchen, to share the recipes and memories of her home so that her son can someday recreate and share these dishes with his own family.

Mely Martínez was born and raised in the coastal city of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. She worked as a rural elementary school teacher for several years in the south of Mexico. After she married, she got to live in and travel through many of the states in Mexico. Her curiosity always led her to the local markets, in order to learn more about the regional cuisines.In 2008, Mely started blogging on her website Mexico in My Kitchen, which she created with the intention of preserving traditional Mexican recipes for her son. Today, Mexico in My Kitchen shares authentic recipes with food lovers around the world, including Mexican immigrants who miss the flavors of their country.Besides writing for her website, Mely enjoys traveling and gardening, as well as attending seminars, festivals, and other events related to Mexican culture and gastronomy. She also serves as a consultant to chefs and restaurateurs around the world. She lives in Dallas, TX.
