Russ Crandall was born and raised in Washington State. After working as a chef in small restaurants for a few years, he joined the US Navy at age 20, and he continues to serve as a Russian and Indonesian translator. In 2010 he began chronicling his cooking adventures on his popular food blog, , and continues to post new recipes weekly. His recipes focus on gourmet, traditional, and international dishes that are inherently healthy. Russ promotes a unigue interpretation of the popular Paleo diet; he recognizes the moderate use of safe starches (including white rice and potatoes) and some forms of dairy as having a place within the Paleo spectrum. He lives with his wife and son in Baltimore, MD.
