About the Author

Shirley Smith Duke

Shirley Duke writes for children in a variety of genres. Following a science and ESL teaching background, she began writing for Latingirl magazine. She next wrote No Bows!,a picture book about an independent minded little girl with her own opinons.

She moved on to write Unthinkable, a YA horror, and then began writing science for Rourke's "Let's Explore Science" series. book, Unthinkable. She has now written over 50 books. Shirley does editing and writes teacher guides. She has worked extensively on the CCSS and NGSS, too. She's also written a book for librarians about STEM and CCCS.

Shirley Duke attended Austin College and holds a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's degree in education. She lives with her husband in New Mexico.
