About the Author

Maryann Hudson

Maryann Hudson is a former award-winning writer for the Los Angeles Times. An expert on youth sports issues, she has written two books on that topic. In the first, "Concussion in Sports," Hudson was at the forefront writing about the danger of impact sports and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. Her book, "High-Pressure Youth Sports," dealt with major issues in sports for children and society, including overbearing parents, bullying coaches and sexual abuse. From Booklist: "Each subject is well researched and clearly presented with statistics, real-life examples, and testimonials, and Hudson is careful to offer best practices to help athletes, parents, and coaches maintain a healthy approach to sports. Though the ample photographs, quick facts, and concise writing ensure that this can be read by children, the book is perhaps a more valuable reference book for coaches, parents, or classroom use." Her first book was "Girls' Golf,'' a primer on the sport presented through stories and anecdotes of some of the best women golfers. Hudson is a freelance writer and lives in Pasadena, Calif.
