Bell's next novel, The Perez Family, received numerous awards including Notable Adult Fiction of the Year from both the American Library Association and New York Public Library. It was also awarded Notable Book of the Year by The Philadelphia Inquirer and The New York Times, calling it "a loud gaudy sentimental heartbreaker of a book, a triumph." Bell's newly written novel is Grievance, the story of a young widow approaching the one-year anniversary of her beloved husband's death.
