About this item

A manual for parents, teachers, and kids to restore their natural alignment* Explores the principles of natural alignment in accessible ways to share with children* Details simple and fun exercises--for kids and adults alike--that "remind" the body of its natural patterns and movements* Explains how innate movements and natural alignment play an essential role in the development of a fully functioning body and nervous systemBabies and toddlers develop naturally healthy alignment by moving in instinctive ways. Their posture is easy and relaxed, founded on correct pelvic positioning and deep core muscles to hold their bodies upright. Yet, as evidenced by the slouching epidemic seen in school-age children, most kids lose this natural alignment early in life, often due to an overreliance on strollers, baby seats, and bucket-style carriers during infancy and the reluctance to put babies on their bellies because of widespread fear of SIDS.

Kathleen Porter

Kathleen Porter is the director of the Center for Natural Alignment in Portland, Oregon. A movement educator and specialist in the body's authentic natural alignment, she offers programs for people with posture-related pain. Kathleen has taught principles of skeletal alignment in many settings, including the University of Hawaii at Hilo, the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, and the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York.

The author of "Natural Posture for Pain-Free Living: The Practice of Mindful Alignment," she has also written a book that addresses the seriousness of the slouching epidemic among children today. "Sad Dog Happy Dog: How Poor Posture Affects Your Child's Health & What You Can Do About It" is a book that grew out of programs Kathleen developed in public and private school classrooms in Hawaii and Oregon. These programs provide students and teachers, working together in a process of mutual learning, with the tools for finding the support of aligned bones for easy, comfortable upright sitting. Teachers have observed that their students are more calm and better able to focus when they sit up straight without tension or strain.

Kathleen is also the creator of a line of posture aid products--The Wedge, Travel Wedge, Yoga Wedge, Comfy Shoulder Band and Baby Wedgie, all are available at Amazon.com through her company, Natural Posture Solutions, LLC.
