About this item
Almost twenty-five years after the infamous art heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum -- still the largest unsolved art theft in history -- one of the stolen Degas paintings is delivered to the Boston studio of a young artist. Claire Roth has entered into a Faustian bargain with a powerful gallery owner by agreeing to forge the Degas in exchange for a one-woman show in his renowned gallery. But as she begins her work, she starts to suspect that this long-missing masterpiece -- the very one that had been hanging at the Gardner for one hundred years -- may itself be a forgery. The Art Forger is a thrilling novel about seeing -- and not seeing -- the secrets that lie beneath the canvas.

In my previous career incarnations I have directed research projects for a residential substance abuse facility, worked as a systems analyst/statistician, headed the Boston office of a software development firm, and served as an adjunct professor teaching sociology at Tufts University and creative writing at Northeastern University. I like being a novelist the best.I began my writing career when I quit my high-pressure job after the birth of my second child. Nervous about what to do next, I said to my mother, "If I'm not playing at being superwoman anymore, I don't know who I am." My mother asked, "If you had one year to live, how would you want to spend it? " The answer: write a novel and spend more time with my children. And that's exactly what I did. Smart mother. My husband Dan and I raised our children in Boston and now divide our time between Boston and Florida. And yes, I'm working on yet another novel but have no plans to raise any more children.
