An astonishing variety of birds, stunningly photographed by the first birder to fully explore Brooklyn's gorgeous new waterfront park Heather Wolf fell in love with birding among the tropical birds of Florida. When she moved to Brooklyn, just steps from downtown, she thought she would be hard-pressed to find anything but pigeons. But she was soon to be delightfully surprised! True, the Brooklyn Bridge once overshadowed a decaying industrial waterfront, but today, it points the way to Brooklyn Bridge Park. When Wolf set out to photograph as many birds as she could in the brand-new park, she found more than 100 species: orioles, thrushes, warblers, wrens, and some that are extremely rare to the region. Birding at the Bridge captures every exciting sighting, with seasonal tips on where park-goers are most likely to spot each bird.
About the Author
Heather Wolf's love of birds was sparked while living on Florida's Gulf Coast, where she participated in the Florida Master Naturalist program and led walks for the Florida Trail Association. She currently lives in Brooklyn and works as a web developer for Cornell Lab of Ornithology and its eBird project. Her blog brooklynbridgebirds.com documents the birds of Brooklyn Bridge Park, where she has recorded over 30,000 bird sightings of more than 130 species. A woman of many passions, Heather has taught thousands of people to juggle and won the 2015 NYC Intel IoT (Internet of Things) Hackathon for her design of a "smart" juggling ball.
