About the Author

Colin Mccrate

Inspired by the writings of small-scale organic farmers; such as Wendell Berry, Eliot Coleman, David Kline and Gene Logsdon; Colin has been growing food since the late 1990's. He developed his unique set of backyard farming skills by working on organic production farms, teaching garden-based environmental education and managing residential landscapes. In addition to the numerous, quantifiable benefits of local food production (better tasting food, reduced carbon emissions, community building), he believes that growing food is a worthy endeavor simply because it makes people happier. When he is not farming, Colin is usually talking about farming and/or drinking beer.
