About the Author

Kathy Doughty

I am a quilter lucky enough to have owned a popular patchwork shop in Sydney, Australia called Material Obsession since 2003. In my books I share the experiences gained from working with the wonderful quilters that frequent my shop as well as the many talented teachers that we employ. It has been a rich and wonderful time of learning at warp speed about color and design. I was a self taught quilter that stuck to basic skills while making up my own rules. Over the years I have learned a lot and am happy to share tips and techniques that bring the readers of my books. In case you don't know, I am an American living down under, married to John the resident photographer at Material Obsession. We work together to make our ideas and products available on a world wide basis through our website, www.materialobsession.com and on a social media level through the blog and my instagram accounts which are @matobsgirl and @materialobsession. We have three sons that pursue their own creative endeavours and a dog!Working full time in the shop means I have learned to balance work with design time. In March 2019 we will release my sixth book, Organic Appliqué and my latest fabric collection for FreeSpirit Fabric called Seeds and Stems. I teach regularly in my shop but also regularly in the USA. You can often find me at Empty Spools, The Quilters Affair, Quilting by the Lake and AQS as well as teaching in shops ow with guilds across the USA as well as L'Amour du Fils in France. What you should know about me if you are considering one of my books is that I value my original voice as a quilter and show my hand in all endeavours. I encourage every one to have confidence in their ability to be creative. I value the community of quilters and textile artists as an important part of my life and welcome you into my life sincerely.
