Trisha Shirey

Trisha Shirey is a native Texan who who developed her love of gardening while assisting in her family's large vegetable garden. For over thirty years, she has managed the renowned lakeside gardens of Lake Austin Spa Resort in Austin, TX. Herbs, vegetables, fruit trees, edible flowers and native plants fill the 19 acre site and inspire the resort's guests to start their own gardens and to manage them organically. The gardens supply not only the resort's world class kitchens, but also provide herbs for spa treatments and supply a bounty of products for the craft classes that Trisha presents to the resort's guests. Her weekly garden tours are a highlight of many guest's stays. Garden Design magazine included the 19 acre property in their Top Ten Best Spa Gardens in the World.Trisha shares garden tips and techniques on "The Central Texas Gardener" on KLRU, a PBS affiliate. She is also a frequent speaker at garden clubs, Master Gardener events and gardening radio programs and she enjoys coaching beginning gardeners. Canning, drying and freezing garden produce, composting and creative culinary uses of her garden bounty keep her occupied in her Austin, Texas home, despite the assistance of her herd of rescued animals.
