About the Author
Dr. Justin W. Patchin is a Professor of Criminal Justice in the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University. He is also co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center (www.cyberbullying.org) .
Dr. Patchin is the author of eight books and numerous academic and professional articles. His first book "The Family Context of Childhood Delinquency" explores the role of parenting in the prevention and intervention of serious delinquent behaviors of children. Since 2002, his research has focused on adolescent behavior online. His second book "Bullying Beyond the Schoolyard: Preventing and Responding to Cyberbullying" (co-authored with Sameer Hinduja) , examines the ways adolescents use technology to cause harm to their peers (and what adults can do about it) . It was named Educator Book of the Year by ForeWord Reviews. An updated edition of this book was released in 2014. His next book, also edited with Sameer Hinduja, "Cyberbullying Prevention and Response: Expert Perspectives" includes strategies by leading cyberbullying and Internet safety experts from across the United States. His fourth book, "School Climate 2.0: Preventing Cyberbullying and Sexting One Classroom at a Time" describes the school's role in preventing problematic online behaviors of adolescents. "Words Wound: Delete Cyberbullying and Make Kindness Go Viral," the first book written for a teen audience, was published in December, 2013. His most recent book: "Bullying Today: Bullet Points and Best Practices" was published in May of 2016.
Dr. Patchin has appeared on NPR, BBC, CNN and in the New York Times and has presented at the White House. He regularly travels throughout the United States and abroad training parents, educators, law enforcement officers, and teens themselves about how to use technology safely and responsibly.
