About this item

Antique print dealer Maggie Summer has come to Maine for a storybook Christmas with her beloved Will Brewer and his Great-Aunt Nettie, who has gathered together her longtime friends for holiday celebrations. Maggie and Will love each other, although Maggie is determined to adopt children and Will has misgivings. But this problem is put on hold when Maggie hears cryptic references by Aunt Nettie’s old friends to buried secrets from their youth. One elderly woman suffers from dementia, remembering those past events better than the gifts she just opened. Will she blurt out information about an old crime so dangerous that someone would commit murder to prevent its being revealed? Blackmail and murder are only the beginning. It may be a Merry Christmas—but who will still be around to see in a Happy New Year? .

About the Author

Lea Wait

When I was single I was an adoption advocate and adopted four daughters. Now I'm married, live on the coast of Maine, and write mysteries and historical novels about people searching for love, acceptance, and a place to call home. I'm thrilled to now be a USA Today (and Amazon) best seller!

My husband, artist Bob Thomas, and I love sitting on our porch overlooking the river and sipping wine, when we're not writing or painting, or keeping up with the rest of the world on CNN. On good days I walk along beautiful coastal roads near my home. I also love speaking about writing at schools, libraries, and other organizations, and attending art gallery openings, especially when my husband's work is featured.

SHADOWS ON A MORNING IN MAINE, in which my protagonist adopts a long-awaited child, and, of course, solves a murder, is the latest in my Shadows Antique Print mystery series. The Midwest Book Review said it was "deftly plotted, with unexpected story twists and turns ... an extraordinary novel by a master of the mystery/suspense genre... unreservedly recommended."

TIGHTENING THE THREADS, the fifth Mainely Needlepoint series, centered around the secrets Australian Sarah Byrne has kept about her origins, was published in April, 2017. Next up? THREAD THE HALLS, a Christmas mystery, to be released October 31. A novella connected with this series is also in the works for the fall of 2017, so stay tuned!

In my LIVING AND WRITING ON THE COAST OF MAINE I write about what it's like to be an author living in Maine. Full of love and humor, it shows how my work and life intersect.

And my latest book for young people, about two teenaged boys who really published their town's newspaper during the first two weeks of the Civil War, is UNCERTAIN GLORY.

My favorite quotation is "Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for; it is a thing to be achieved." William Jennings Bryan wrote that, but I think it defines my life.

And remember ... LIFE is the real mystery!

And remember -- LIFE is the REAL mystery!
