Like most kids, Roberto doesn't want to help with household chores. Who wants to clean the bedroom? Yuck! Roberto tells his mother he can't clean his room because he's afraid the Closet Monster might lock him away forever! "Maybe you should help me," he tells his mother. "The Closet Monster is afraid of you." But Mama insists he clean his own room.And when Mama asks for Roberto's help wiping the table and sweeping the kitchen floor, he again tries to wiggle out of cleaning because of his fear of monsters. "If I sweep the floor," he says, "the Dust Monster might come and blow me away forever!"Later, when Roberto is ready for his mother to read him a story, she turns the tables on him. "If I read you a story," Mama says, "the Work Monster might come and take me away forever.

At the age of 14, she was whisked away from the city, and dropped into Orange, Texas, where she lived in the same house her mother was born in. Being stuck in a culture with one foot rooted in Texas, and the other foot firmly planted in Cajun Country, Spelile gained a unique perspective on life.Spelile graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in English and became a teacher. Her greatest experience was studying playwrighting with her mentor, Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright, Charles Gordone. He said of her creative writing ability, "Spelile has professional promise." Under his watchful eye, she gained an even deeper perspective on life.Raised by a family that hammered in and prospered from, the benefits of an education, Spelile decided to write inspirational stories for children, based on her teaching and mothering experience. Her most rewarding, and surprising, outcome of writing has been the acclaim received by her first book, No Time for Monsters. Released in April 2010, No Time was placed on the Tejas Star Book Award List. In February 2011, the students of Texas voted No Time for Monsters the 2010-2011 Tejas Star Book Award winner. In addition, she is an author on the Author Pronunciation Guide site of Teachingbooks.net and has had the pleasure of giving author presentations to children in the South, giving her an even more unique perspective on life.Spelile currently stays at home taking care of her daughters and writing. She also travels to schools and libraries, in Texas and other states, conducting author presentations. The various perspectives that Spelile has gained have helped to make her stories inspirational, insightful, funny, creative, sometimes quirky, but always an experience.
