Lisa Maxwell Arter

Lisa Arter is an assistant professor of English and the coordinator of the English Education program at Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. Her research interests include children's and young adult literature, gender studies, literacy advocacy, preservice teacher preparation, and historical nonfiction K-12 integration.Before Southern Utah University, Dr. Arter taught at Arizona State University, where she earned her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction: English Education. She chose to focus on preservice teacher education after teaching English and literacy intervention for seven years in a Title 1 middle school. Dr. Arter has worked as a K-12 teacher, coach, literacy trainer, and peer mentor. She has taught a range of composition, literature, and education courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.A lifetime member of both the History Channel Club and Sarcastics Anonymous (motto: Like We Need Your Support) , Dr. Arter prefers reading to writing, cake decorating to cleaning, crocheting to knitting, and the Tenth Doctor to all others. If she weren't a teacher, she would like to have her own talk show (which, let's face it, is quite a lot like teaching) . An avid Pinner, she finds clowns terrifying and likes the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard. Her favorite form of exercise is jumping to conclusions. If she could live inside of anyone's head for a month, it would be Terry Pratchett.She lives in Cedar City, Utah, with her husband, children, and dogs.
