The author has lived for over twenty years surrounded by both German and Swiss Amish in southern Michigan. During that time, Strobel has developed a friendship with many Amish. A large population of Old Order Amish live in southern Michigan and on the Indiana and Ohio borders. In 2016, the Amish population in the five counties of Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Lenawee, and St. Joseph is estimated to be over 4,500 men, women, and children in 11 settlements and 34 church districts. There are black buggies everywhere! My Amish Neighbors explore the values and unique lifestyles of the Amish. This book also reviews the differences between the traditional Swiss Amish sects and the more progressive German Amish.
