About this item

The Dance of LIfe is a collection of 15 theme-based autobiographical essays, two short stories, seven poems, and 22 photographs in which various places, events and characters that have played a role the author's life appear in multiple contexts. From these pieces, readers are invited to create their own composite picture of the person who calls herself Pat Piety. The author also hopes these word-association exercises in memory will prompt readers to recall significant memories in their own lives.

About the Author

Pat Piety

I have been working on my bucket list since retiring in 2003. Among other things, I have taught English composition part-time at several colleges and universities; been a columnist for two years for the Stillwater, OK, NewsPress; written one novel (unpublished, being revised) ; published a book of autobiographical essays, poems, and short stories ("The Dance of Life: Perspectives") ; published a memoir ("Don't Get Yourself Talked About") ; and worked for the past two years as a tutor in the writing lab at the Forest Park Campus of St. Louis Community College, where I enjoy meeting fascinating students of all races and ethnicities from all over the world.
Since retiring I have also traveled to England, Argentina, the Bahamas, and the south of France, as well as to many U.S. states. I would love to take a van tour of Cuba with a group of congenial friends before I kick the bucket.
I am extremely proud of my three wonderful daughters: Tamara R. Piety, law professor and author of "Brandishing the First Amendment"; M.G. Piety, philosophy professor and author of two books on Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, as well as an ebook on figure skating titled "Sequins and Scandals"; and Julia C. Rieman, a partner in the law firm of Gungoll, Jackson in Oklahoma who successfully represented a client in a recent multi-billion dollar divorce case.
The photos on my page are of me as a child with my Pentecostal evangelist parents, as a young bride, a mother, and a friend. My profile photo is from a reading I gave at a fundraiser for Faith Aloud in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 30, 2015.
I encourage you to tell your story, too, for the sake of your family and the history of the human race.
