Jennifer Salvato Doktorski is the author of the young adult novels HOW MY SUMMER WENT UP IN FLAMES (Simon Pulse 2013) , FAMOUS LAST WORDS (Henry Holt and Company 2013) -- a Bank Street College Best Children's Book of the Year for 2014 -- and THE SUMMER AFTER YOU AND ME (Sourcebooks Fire, Spring 2015) , which is a YALSA nominee for the Teens' Top Ten books for 2016. She is also a freelance nonfiction writer and has published articles and essays in national magazines, such as Cosmopolitan. Her first paid writing gig was at The North Jersey Herald & News, where she wrote obituaries and began her lifelong love of news and coffee. She lives with her family, their dog Buffy (The Squeaky Toy Slayer) , and an African dwarf frog named Munchkin in New Jersey, where she spends her summers "down the shore" dreaming about surfing lessons and observing sea life while keeping her toes in the sand.
