About the Author

Laura Duksta

Laura Duksta new from the age of 7 or 8, that she was meant to travel the world, connect with her brothers and sisters and share the message of love. That is why she considers herself, first and foremost, an Ambassador of Love. At age 11, she lost all her hair to a condition called Alopecia Areata, which she knows helped expand her capacity to love, and feel compassion and understanding towards herself and others. Her first book, I Love You More, was written for her sister and nephew who were going through a difficult time. As a first time author it was a challenge finding an agent or publisher, so she and illustrator Karen Keesler, along with the help of Laura's mom, a beloved kindergarten teacher for 38 years opted to self-publish. The illustrations were packed up and sent to the printer originally on September 10, 2001. On 9/11 Laura realized her book was written not only for her sister and nephew, but so that all children might know, no matter what's going on in their life, or in the world around them, how truly loved they are. Self-published, I Love You More sold 180,000 copies. In 2007 she teamed up with Sourcebooks who helped it become a New York Times bestseller, now with over 800,000 copies sold in six languages. It's become a favorite in homes and classrooms, and a big hit at baby showers. She realizes it's less of a story book and more of a conversation of love shared with our children. The book starts from either side and reads to the middle, this flip format demonstrates the giving and receiving of love, as well as the idea that love goes on and on and on, the book, like love never ends. Her newest book, I'll Hug You More, arrived January 2017. Done in a similar style to I Love you More, the book shares opportunities we have to connect through daily activities, and how it's always a good time to give and receive a hug. Laura is a big believer in the power of love and hugs. It's found that hugs release natural endorphins, creating less stress and anxiety, they foster healthy self-esteem and a sense of belonging and connection, and of course, as the saying goes, the best thing about a hug might be that you can't give one without getting one in return. In families where love and hugs abound, her books will compliment the already present goodness, and in families where love isn't expressed easily and hugs are at times awkward, Laura's books can be an access to these great gifts! I Love You More comes in three formats, hardcover, padded board book and board book. The board book choices have the cardboard pages, but are missing some of the pictures. If you'd like the original book with a jacket, please be sure to choose the "hardcover" version. I'll Hug You More is available in the hardcover, that again will have all the illustrations and a jacket, and also in the padded board book version. Laura is now fulfilling on her mission of sharing the conversation of love around the world
