An inspiring story with a touch of humor, "Dear God, It's Maddie Bell," follows a ten-year-old girl through a series of unfortunate events. After experiencing some hurtful moments, Maddie cries out to God and her deceased grandmother by writing them letters. Maddie vents her feelings in letters that are given to Pastor Byrd for delivery to God. First, she loses her grandmother, her caretaker since birth. Then she is cared for by her maternal aunt. She is then removed by Children Protective Services and briefly placed in a dysfunctional foster home until permanently placed with her paternal aunt and her husband in Washington, DC. Maddie relocates from rural North Carolina to Washington, DC to a seemingly picture-perfect family life until she discovers otherwise.
