About this item

From School Library Journal Gr 1-3-Though this series presents some solid information, the visuals are somewhat uneven. Many of the cover images are unintentionally funny, with kids acting out allergy reactions with goofy expressions, taking away from the seriousness of the issues at hand. Other graphics, such as a close-up of a bee's stinger and an extreme allergic reaction, convey the true danger of allergies. However, the books are so well written and researched that it may be worth overlooking the art. Each title begins with a general definition of what an allergy is, then focuses on a particular type. The writing is concise enough that readers won't mind the repetition if they speed through the whole series. Despite some flaws, the material is communicated creatively and eloquently.
