Anger and violence have reached seemingly epidemic proportions within the fabric of our youth. From school violence, social media, to growing oppositional and defiant behaviors within the home; anger has surfaced more and more in the lifestyles of our youth. What are the answers? Should the focus be more on parental enrichment skills, or on social and emotional curriculum in school? Perhaps, greater monitoring of social media among our youth? These questions, in themselves only point to what is a systemic and increasingly complex problem. A multifaceted approach is indeed needed to address this issue before it becomes even more intractable and leads to even greater anger and rage in our next generation.

Mr. Novick holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA and a Master's Degree in Family Therapy from Friends University in Wichita, KS as well as post degree work and certification in School Social Work from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ and in Educational Leadership. Mr. Novick is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist and State Certified as a School Social Worker.Mr. Novick has worked as a School Social Worker/Counselor for the last sixteen years and is an adjunct instructor at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Additionally, he has been a licensed and Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, community mental health, and substance abuse setting over the last twenty years. Novick has supervised in family counseling, school counseling, and centers for abused and neglected children as well as adults with developmental disabilities.He has also authored nationally and internationally articles in American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, Autism Parenting, National Education Digest, NJEA Review, National Association of Special Education Teachers, NASSP Principal Leadership, Better Mental Health and ASCD Educational Leadership Magazines. He has authored three books Parents and Teachers Working Together and the Likeable, Effective, and Productive Educator, The Balanced Child: Teaching Children Social Skills & Character Building (due out later this year) all published by Rowman and Littlefield Publishers as well as a children's book entitled Brain Bully: A Children's Guide to Stinkin' Thinkin' published by Childswork/Childsplay and a companion game by the same title to be published in early 2018.He has been humbled with numerous awards for his work in education, inclusive education, counseling, character education, and human rights. Including NJEA Martin Luther King Jr. Human and Civil Rights Award, NJSCA Ocean County School Counselor of the Year Award, the Ocean County Mental Health Advocate Award, NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities Community Award, NJ DOE Holocaust Memorial Hela Young Award, NJ DOE Inclusive Educator of the Year & Exemplary Educator Awards, NJSCA Human Rights Advocate Award, ETS/Kids Bridge Character Educator of the Year Award and U.S. Congressional Recognition for Community Service and the NJ Governor's Jefferson Award for Public Service.
