About this item

Now you see them; now you don't: through beautiful illustrations, including five gorgeous gatefolds, an acclaimed nature writer teaches kids all about camouflage. Animals know that in order to survive, they must stay hidden - and, fortunately, nature helps them by providing coloration that camouflages them in their habitat. Award-winning author and illustrator Jim Arnosky looks at this most artful and beautiful aspect of animal life, from the dappled spots on a fawn and the leaf-like markings on a Copperhead snake to the white fur of the snowshoe hare in winter and the changing colors of the octopus. Featuring five large gatefolds, this stunning book covers a wide variety of mammals, birds, insects, and sea creatures, and also offers kids advice on becoming better at spying animals out in the wild.

About the Author

Jim Arnosky

I became interested in wildlife at a very young age. The woods around our home were filled with wild creatures. I spent whole days outdoors tryng to find them. Because I was naturally talented in drawing, I drew pictures of the animals I liked best, first in cartoons, gradually learning to draw them realistically, until I could draw and dpaint any aninal I saw and make it look real and alive on my paper.Everyone of the 104 children's books written and illustrated by me has been based on things I have seen for myself in Nature. I have always gone outdoors having no preconceived idea of what I might fine. Nature tells me what my day, my walk, my sightings, my drawings, and also my books will ultimately be. I am happy for whatever gift Nature gives me, a gift for the going. Please look for my books in your library and here on Amazon.
