About the Author
Maria Van Lieshout
Maria van Lieshout grew up in Holland, and graduated from George Washington University with a BFA in Visual Communications. Her first job was as graphic designer for the Smithsonian's Air&Space Museum. Then she joined Coca-Cola's Brand Marketing Department in Holland, where she developed packaging, advertising and brand communications.
Maria was asked to join Coke's Global Brand Innovation Group, where she she interviewed people all over the world, and developed new brand ideas based on what she'd learned.
As Creative Director for Coke's licensing business, Maria gave creative direction to licensees all over the world. She also developed new branding for Levi Strauss' Dockers brand.
In 2000, Maria followed her dream and decided to make books full-time. She found herself at the bottom of the tall and knotty beanstalk that is the path to becoming a published picture book creator.
Today, with a few scratches to her knees, a twig or two in her hair, and the help of many along the climb, Maria has found her place making books. She loves everything involved with making books: coming up with an idea and a story, writing, creating characters, illustrating, and designing books. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her Dutchman Peter and their son Max Pelle.
