Kimberly Powell

Kimberly (Thomas) Powell was born in Virginia and grew up both there and in South Carolina. She currently lives outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is a huge fan of the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. A professional genealogist, author and instructor, Kimberly has been writing about family history as the Genealogy Expert for About.com for over 16 years. She is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists, an instructor at the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, and a course coordinator and instructor at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. She has also served as volunteer webmaster for the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society since 2006. Her book, The Everything Guide to Online Genealogy, published by Adams Media, is a required text for the Genealogical Essentials course offered by the Boston University Center for Professional Education.
