Nell Cross Beckerman
Hi! I'm Nell Cross Beckerman, thanks for clicking on my Author's Page. I am a Picture Book writer, which I came to after a career in TV producing and a career raising two girls. When I was a TV producer, I spent a lot of time crafting short stories that went with video to help tell the story. I mostly worked at VH1, and some of the favorite stories I told on those shows are 1) About the world's smallest guitar, the Nanoguitar, during which I got to film inside the Cornell School of Nanotechnology 2) When Fabio smashed a Canada Goose with his face while riding a roller coaster 3) Interviewing Kenny G at his house in Malibu about holding the world's record for the longest note played on a saxophone. When I was a full-time mom of little girls, one of our favorite activities was reading picture books and going to the library for story time. I am a huge supporter of libraries and librarians and feel so lucky to live in a country that supports them. Some of the pictures books I read over and over to them were Bread and Jam for Francis, Blueberries for Sal, The Big Red Lollipop, Snowmen at Night, Duck & Goose, and all the Olivia books (my personal favorite, which we got in a Cheerios box, was Olivia and the Missing Toy.) I wrote my first picture book, Down Under the Pier, inspired by taking my family for a day of fun on top of the Santa Monica Pier, and then knowing to go down BELOW the pier for even more fun. It felt like a secret adventure because I grew up with a biologist dad who always knew to take me under piers to see all the different animals that live on the pier pilings, that you can see when the tide is low. Down Under the Pier celebrates both kinds of fun--amusement park fun and discovering nature fun. I hope you enjoy it! And post your pics of being under a pier to #downunderthepier on Instagram! Please join my mailing list at www.nellcrossbeckerman.com to keep up to date on book signing events and other appearances!
