About this item

Infused with jubilance and warmth, this luminous, lyrical picture book celebrates the people and the work that put food on our tables.Bread, milk, wool, fruits, and vegetables: things that fill our day to day lives. But where, and who, do they come from? Across wheat fields and city rooftop gardens, mushroom beds and maple forests, Thank a Farmer traces the food and clothing that a family uses back to the people who harvested and created them. With Maria Gianferrari's informed and poetic text and monumental artwork from Monica Mikai, Thank a Farmer gently emphasizes the importance of agriculture in our day-to-day lives and reminds readers to give thanks to farmworkers around the world. About the Author

Maria Gianferrari

I write both fiction and nonfiction picture books, many of which were inspired by my late, much missed, beloved rescue dog, Becca. I love nature and animals, especially dogs! Our new furry family rescue is named Maple. Most of my nonfiction picture books are about creatures in the natural world. I'm also fascinated by the subject of urban ecology, and the different ways in which wild animals have adapted to life and co-existence with humans. Most of my fiction picture books contain dogs as main characters, and some cats too! I am most intrigued by the human-animal bond, so this is a topic that I like to explore in my fiction.I am represented by the amazing Ammi-Joan Paquette of Erin Murphy Literary Agency, and these are my books:*Penny & Jelly: The School Show, illustrated by Thyra Heder (HMH/July 2015) *Penny & Jelly Slumber Under the Stars, illustrated by Thyra Heder (HMH/June 2016) *Coyote Moon, illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline (Roaring Brook Press/July 2016) *Officer Katz & Houndini, illustrated by Danny Chatzikonstantinou (Aladdin/October 2016) *Hello Goodbye Dog, illustrated by Patrice Barton (Roaring Brook Press/July 2017) *Terrific Tongues, illustrated by Jia Liu (Boyds Mills Press/April 2018) *Hawk Rising, illustrated by Brian Floca (Roaring Brook Press/May 2018) *Operation Rescue Dog, illustrated by Luisa Uribe (Little Bee/September 2018) *Whoo-Ku Haiku, illustrated by Jonathan D.
