She documented conditions across Eastern Europe in the wake of the Second World War. She marched down the Ho Chi Minh Trail with the South Vietnamese Army and across the Sierra Maestra Mountains with Castro.

Her forthcoming biography, First to the Front: The Untold Story of Dickey Chapelle, Trailblazing Female War Correspondent is due out from St. Martin's Press in summer 2023. When not writing she can be found photographing the natural world impinging upon the urban landscape or digging in the dirt with her husband and two sons in Santa Barbara, California.
