"In 1969, Illeana Douglas' parents saw the film Easy Rider. Like many folks of that generation, the groundbreaking film transformed them. Taking Dennis Hopper's words, "That's what it's all about man", to heart, they abandoned what Illeana had hoped would be her comfortable upper middle class life for a childhood filled with hippies, goats, free spirits, and free love. Illeana writes, "Since it was all out of my control, I began to think of my life as a movie, with a Dennis Hopper like father at the center of it. Years later I would work with Dennis Hopper on the film Search and Destroy"--In 1969, Douglas' parents saw the film Easy Rider, and abandoned their comfortable upper middle class life. Actress, writer, director, producer, and now author Illeana Douglas first came to prominence, as Matt Dillon's suspicious sister in Gus Van Sant's To Die For, for which she was a New York Film Critics award nominee. She's had memorable performances in Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Alive, Grace of My Heart, Picture Perfect, Stir of Echoes,Happy Texas, Ghost World, Dummy, and many more. Illeana received an Emmy nomination as Angela on Six Feet Under. She's had recurring roles on The Larry Sanders Show, The Drew Carey Show, Ugly Betty, and Entourage, Chasing Life, Grey's Anatomy,Welcome to Sweden, and Modern Family. She appears regularly on Turner Classic Movies as a guest host, and is the host of Trailblazing Women.
Illeana is an award winning writer, producer and director. Her first short film The Perfect Woman premiered at the New York Film Festival, went on to play at Sundance and was later acquired by Miramax. Other short films including Boy Crazy Girl Crazier, and Everybody Just Stay Calm which premiered on the IFC Channel. She wrote and directed and starred in Devil Talk, and Supermarket which premiered at Sundance. Illeana created the TV pilots Confessions of a Movie Lover for the IFC Network, Illeanarama for the Oxygen Network and New Line, Celebrity Garage Sale for the A&E Network. She wrote,produced,starred,and frequently directed the multi award winning web series Easy to Assemble for IKEA. Easy to Assemble was groundbreaking and the first branded web series of all time. She's executive produced films Life Without Dick, Kingdom Come, Chez Upshaw, Search and Destroy, and Grace of My Heart. She is the executive producer and costars in the web-series The Skinny (2015) She is currently directing Love Is Funny based on her original script. Illeana hosts a weekly podcast called I Blame Dennis Hopper on the popcorn network where she interviews actors, writers, and directors about film.
